Profile: John Lowes
I’m an electrical engineer and project manager. My main responsibility is to oversee the installation of charge point networks and in the last three years I’ve focussed heavily on rapid charge point networks. I create delivery plans, liaise with all the contractors that have to come together to deliver the physical works and all the associated management for us. My job is to make sure that we build the networks and help to keep them running.

I attended the very first “First Year Maintenance” for an Electric Highway charger which was at South Mimms and I was blown away by the fact that the upgrades required were what was in effect “open heart surgery” in the field. It was great to see that the OEM was taking the issues we were experiencing seriously and that improvements were being made. It’s good to sometimes escape the office and document and monitor the works for myself.
“In the future, when electric driving is common place, I’d like to be able to say that I was part of the “beginning” of it all and helped to move it forwards. Everything starts somewhere!”
I’m a keen cyclist and enjoy exploring on our tandem with my better half. She has been a football, golf and kayaking widow so decided not to become a cycling widow. We did the coast to coast over two days on the tandem in 2015 which was an adventure. They say wherever you are going in your relationship you’ll get there faster on a tandem (heaven or hell) and I can vouch for that.
Lamp posts, with their existing power supplies, could provide a massive opportunity for EV charging – especially in residential areas where access to off-street parking is an issue. However, does the business case really stack up?
